CV Format for UAE & Dubai Jobs

The CV format that works in London or New York doesn't always work in Dubai. UAE recruiters expect a photo, visa status, and personal details that Western CVs leave out. Pika gives you the exact format that gets Indian, Filipino, European, and Arab expats interviewed across the UAE.

The Latest CV Format for UAE Jobs (2026)

A modern UAE CV is 2 pages, single-column, ATS-friendly, and includes details that would be unusual in a US or UK CV. The expected order is: Personal Details (with passport-style photo, full name, nationality, date of birth, visa status, UAE phone number with +971, email, location, and UAE driving licence if applicable), Professional Summary (3โ€“4 lines), Key Skills, Work Experience (most recent first with quantified achievements), Education (with grade or division), Certifications, Languages (Arabic ability is a real differentiator), and References ("Available on request" is fine). Avoid tables, columns, and graphics - Bayt, GulfTalent, LinkedIn, and Workday all parse single-column CVs more reliably.

Best CV Format for Dubai Jobs Specifically

Dubai is the most competitive job market in the GCC and the format expectations are slightly stricter than the rest of the UAE. Recruiters at DMCC, DIFC, Dubai Internet City, and Jebel Ali Free Zone employers screen hundreds of CVs per opening, so the first 1/3 of page 1 has to do the heavy lifting. Lead with a Professional Summary that names your years of experience, your most recent industry, and the role you're targeting. Then a Key Skills block with 10โ€“12 keywords pulled directly from the job description - this is where the ATS match is won or lost. Quantify everything: AED revenue figures, team sizes, project budgets, percentage growth. Dubai recruiters trust numbers and discount adjective-heavy CVs.

What to Include That Western CVs Skip

Visa status is non-negotiable - state clearly whether you hold an Employment Visa (and with which sponsor), Golden Visa, Dependent Visa, Tourist Visa, or whether you need sponsorship. Recruiters use this to filter at the first scan. Nationality is expected and helps recruiters assess fit for roles requiring Arabic, English, or specific language pairs. A professional headshot in the top corner is the norm - passport style, neutral background, business attire. Date of birth is commonly included though optional. Marital status appears on roughly half of UAE CVs and is acceptable to include or omit. UAE driving licence ("Valid UAE driving licence") is a plus for sales, field, and operations roles.

CV Format by Experience Level

Freshers (0โ€“2 years): 1 page, lead with Education, then Internships, Academic Projects, Skills, Certifications, Languages. Mid-level (3โ€“7 years): 2 pages, Professional Summary first, then Work Experience with quantified achievements, Skills, Education. Senior (8+ years): 2 pages strictly, with a results-focused Professional Summary, P&L or team-scale achievements in your most recent role, and a condensed early-career section. Executive (15+ years): 2โ€“3 pages, lead with a board-ready summary, follow with selected achievements, governance roles, and recognised credentials.

CV Format Mistakes That Cost UAE Interviews

Missing visa status - recruiters can't assess practical fit and skip you. Using a US-style 1-page resume - UAE recruiters expect 2 pages and read a 1-pager as under-qualified. Skipping the photo entirely - while it's optional, most local recruiters expect one and an absent photo can signal you don't know UAE norms. Using a creative template with multi-column layout - fails Bayt and GulfTalent ATS. Listing salary expectations on the CV itself - keep that for the application form or interview. Forgetting to mention Arabic ability if you have any - even basic conversational Arabic is worth a line.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best CV format for UAE jobs in 2026?

A 2-page, single-column, ATS-friendly CV with a passport-style photo, visa status, nationality, and quantified work-experience achievements. Reverse-chronological order with Personal Details first, then Professional Summary, Skills, Work Experience, Education, Languages, and Certifications.

Should I include a photo on my Dubai CV?

Yes for most roles. UAE recruiters expect a professional headshot in the top corner - passport style, neutral background, business attire. The only exception is when applying to international firms (Google, Microsoft, McKinsey) operating in the UAE that follow global no-photo conventions.

Do I need to mention my visa status on a UAE CV?

Yes - this is essential. State whether you have an Employment Visa, Golden Visa, Dependent Visa, Tourist Visa, or need sponsorship. UAE employers filter heavily on this at the first CV scan, so making them search for it can cost you the interview.

How long should my UAE CV be?

2 pages for most professionals (3โ€“15 years experience). 1 page only for freshers with under 2 years experience. Senior executives with 15+ years can go to 3 pages but rarely should. UAE recruiters prefer 2-page CVs over 1-page or 3-page extremes.

Is Arabic language ability important on a UAE CV?

Not required for most expat roles, but a strong differentiator. Government roles, banking customer-facing positions, and many sales/retail roles prefer or require Arabic. Mention any level - Basic, Conversational, Professional, Native - even basic Arabic is worth a line on your CV.

Should I include my UAE driving licence on my CV?

Yes if you have one - list it under Skills or as a separate Personal Information item ("Valid UAE driving licence"). It's a significant plus for sales, field service, operations, and any role with on-site visits across the Emirates.
